Popup New Mail Bubble Showing Old Messages

A few weeks ago, I started getting popups showing old messages as if they had just come in. It seems to cycle through some old messages one after the other and keeps popping up the bubble notification for each one one after another. Just now it did that with like 20 or 30 old messages, then stopped. It has done this several times over the last few weeks.

I also noticed that sometimes when I mark all messages read, one or two don't get marked read. So something seems to be off in the status of messages department.

This almost feels like some kind of corruption issue.

Anybody? My mail just did it again. It cycles through a bunch of old messages as if they were new and keeps popping up the new message bubble. Very annoying.
