[SOLVED] Beta5 - lost folders/calendars/tasks/contacts in lefthand pane after shares

Post by John.Marsden »

Installed the upgrade to Beta5 build 1418 of ZDesktop yesterday. I got my shared calendars to show in ZDesktop by renaming them via the web client. Today I worked with my assistant to share each others task lists and to share my contacts with him. All works fine on web client, and shares all show in Zdesktop. Am really pleased as this is THE feature we've been wanting for a long time. But .....
Then went to setup to see how to add new email account in ZDesktop. Did not actually add anything. Re-launched Zdesktop. And found that the left hand pane no longer showed the list of folders in mail or contacts, or the list of calendars in calendar, etc. ( I don't have briefcases or documents yet). So now completely lost my ability to navigate through my information. Also list of folders no longer shows in "advanced search". It also takes much longer at startup to go from initial display of the empty ZDesktop screen with "loading.... Mailbox size 8.9k" to actually showing my mailbox name and size.
Help!!! I've read in the forums that once I've upgraded I can't go back. Obviously I can use the web client when online, but I can no longer operate offline!

If you see blank screen or blank folder tree, it's usually not a data problem but rather a UI display issue.
When this happens again, do ctrl+F6 (on mac it's Cmd+F6) and click on the gear icon on lower right. Select Tools -> Error Console and check for any errors. Click on the Error category on the top to narrow down to errors only. Then copy+past all errors here.
Also very often UI javascript errors are recoverable by doing a reload. You can either relaunch the UI or do a Ctrl+F5 (Cmd+F5 on mac) to reload.

Further to my original post I've tried the following with no success:

1) Opening local desktop client via Firefox as http://localhost:7633/desktop/login.jsp. This gives exactly the same problem.

2) Complete system re-boot does not change the problem.
Attached are the log files from today since the complete system re-boot. Note that the "LDAP: error code 17 - zimbraPrefMailFlashIcon: attribute type undefined]" error seems to have started in the log files only after upgrading to Beta5 and then adjusting some preferences.
There is also a lot of warning messages in the Error Console for Prism. (How do I get a copy of the information logged in the console to post here?). There are references to undefined variable, undefined properties etc. from several files. Here are some examples cut and pasted from hundreds in the error console:
Warning: reference to undefined property this._buttons[id]

those are warnings from the error console. Do you see any actual errors when you click on the Error button on the top of the console?

See my post 7 minutes ago. I've tried re-loading the UI with no success.
Also pasted some messages from error console. There are no errors but many, many warnings.
Ctrl-F5 doesn't seem to do anything.

could you file a bug with the zdesktop.log file you attached? I do see a bug, so we should fix that. but that bug doesn't seem to be a cause of missing folder tree.
have you tried doing a shift+F5 reload? I said ctrl+F5, but I meant shift+F5 :)

Shift-F5 reloads but takes the UI back to the same state with no folder tree etc in the left pane.

That usually means the client ran into an error, which often is associated with a javascript. Are you sure there's no actual errors in the javascript console? You only attached warnings. Are there errors?
Our internal users have been experiencing this blank folder tree issue lately but usually hard to reproduce, so it's good that you are hitting this issue consistently. If you don't mind we want to collect more debug info.
Can you first confirm that you are seeing the blank folder tree issue in both prism and firefox?
