Autodiscover not authenticating

I have installed the trial version of Zimbra Mobile Plus and I have setup the autodiscover feature following this wiki: https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Zimbra_Sui ... todiscover
when setting up an iphone with autodiscover, I get a "cannot get email" error. I noticed that autodiscover fills the user field with "user@mydomain.com". Not sure how the system treats the authentication as my Zimbra authenticates with "user" and no "@mydomain.com". I have been trying to reopen the exchange settings in the phone and edit the user manually but still does not authenticate.
If I remove the dns record for autodiscover and use the manual ActiveSync settings in the setup, then all works fine
Where should I look to esit on the server side the autodiscover settings? Which log files does Mobile Plus uses ? How to troubleshoot
