GAL Browsing in 6.0

Post by nrc »

Can anyone provide some details on how GAL Browsing is implemented in 6.0? I'm not able to find this feature in my test installation.

No response here and no response to the same question posted in the comments on bugzilla.
Am I correct in gathering from the comments in the RFE that the request for "GAL via contacts folders with sorting, browsing" has been ignored and all this "fix" really implements is syncing among GAL sources?

GAL is there in 6.0. SearchGalRequest has been modified to indicate/allow paging and ZWC in 6.0 uses the modified API. IE, when you compose a new message and click on 'To', the address chooser appears populated with the first page of gal results and the user can then browse through the the entire GAL.

Isn't this the same as 5.x? I can currently click "To" when composing a message, and see the first page of GAL results. How is the implementation is 6.0 different?

You can go page by page through GAL search results or page by page through the entire GAL. See bug 36188 or try it in 6.0 beta for more info.

MAYBE I'M MISSING SOMETHING? IT LOOKS THE SAME:
RELEASE 5.0.18_GA_3011.RHEL5_64_20090707153751 RHEL5_64 NETWORK EDITION:

RELEASE 6.0.0_BETA2_1547.RHEL5_20090602052001 CENTOS5 FOSS EDITION:

correct, you'll see the difference when you populate your gal with multiple pages of entries. the prev/next buttons will work [correctly] on the GAL in 6.0.x, where they didn't in 5.0.x.

What? Maybe I've misunderstood, but the OP was asking about (Bug 14531 - GAL via contacts folders with sorting, browsing and real sync), not (Bug 36188 - Implement paging of GAL results).

Yes, that's right. I think it's pretty clear that what the 14531 is talking about is the ability to access the GAL via contact folders with sorting and browsing, just as with contacts right now. I see no sign of that functionality in the beta.

Maybe Sam @ Zimbra is confusing these two bugs? I can't tell which beta that bug 14531 is included with. Maybe it hasn't been included in any public releases?
