Starting LDAP - FAIL. Ubuntu, dapper

Yep, does starting from scratch count? Nothing else has been installed except for Zimbra. I don't have any log files to work with any more as the box is happily running 3.1.0 now. I might try 3.1.4 when the Debian version comes out. Would absolutely love to see an Ubuntu version.

Hi,

I had the same problem, and found that it could be solved if you remove the file

/opt/zimbra/openldap/etc/openldap/schema/zimbra-hsm.schema.
The reason is that the directory in /opt/zimbra/openldap/etc/openldap/schema is typically automatically scanned by slapd when it starts, so having two zimbra-hsm.schema just causes failures.
My bug report filed as bug number 8793

Hey, thanks for the tip.
I tried 3.1.4 and that actually went fine except LDAP failed due to needing one version behind what dapper needs for libssl.
Installed that and it was all good.

Starting LDAP - FAIL. Ubuntu, dapper

I have attempted to install zcs 3.1.4 on Ubuntu Dapper Drake. My situation:
almost a virgin machine. any software that has been installed is not active so there are no port conflicts

I did nned to create symbolic links to libssl and libcrypto as Dapper uses 0.9.8 and zcs excpected 0.9.7. Other than the only non expected occurence was a warning about setting up an MX record, which I ignored as I have no control over that.

Everything seems to run well until this output occur:

*** CONFIGURATION COMPLETE - press 'a' to apply

Select from menu, or press 'a' to apply config (? - help) a

Save configuration data to a file? [Yes]

Save config in file: [/opt/zimbra/config.12066]

The system will be modified - continue? [No] y

Operations logged to /tmp/zmsetup.log.12066

Setting local config values...Done

Setting up CA...Done

Creating SSL certificate...Done

I tried removing the zimbra-hsm.schema as noted in an earlier post and the using zmcontrol start. But this just spits out:

Host bcx-kennymik.domain.corp

Starting ldap...Done.

FAILED

ERROR - failed to start slapd
I can find nothing in any of the logs to assist.
Can anyboby help me with this please?

THanks Bobby, this gave me some clues as to where to look. Turned out that the problem was my attempt to fake zimbrar into using 0.9.8 of openssl with the symlinks. Obtaining a copy of 0.9.7 resolved the problem with ldap.

Since Dapper ships with 0.9.8 this is likely to effect everybody who attempts this platform - any chance of certification with 0.9.8?
Awesome product (been using it on FC4 all year)
thanks guys

libdb3.so.3 is require and does not ship with Dapper Drake

Now most things start. Except logger and snmp. Any ideas? I can find no relevant output. Otherwise I can get into both the administrative console and the user screen

Might be a good idea to start a wiki page on this so you can collect all the tips and allow others to test with you.
