Hi All,
I've got a former end user who didn't really understand what it was she was doing when she saved a number of very important email documents, and rather than saving them as pdf files, she managed to save them as "mhtml" (aka MHT files, or IE Archives.) Now that she's no longer with the company, her replacement needs to open the files, and we're all completely clueless as to what to do.
The default application to open mhtml files is IE, though MS Word is supposed to understand it as well. However the code in the mhtml headers appears to be trying to use Zimbra to render the documents, but when trying to open the saved document from the drive, IE is opened and the Zimbra mail client launches and just hangs at the "loading" screen. It never gets any farther than that screen. And word simply can't make heads or tails out of it: The MS Word 2013 document I opened displays a box, and that's it.
The header of the mhtml file begins with this, so it's obvious that it's trying to use Zimbra to render the document:

I've even added the "Mozilla Archive Format" plugin to Firefox, to allow it to open mhtml files, but it exhibits the same issues. it attempts to open the Zimbra web client, and hangs at the loading page, but with Firefox & the add-in, it also displays that it was "saved from" and then displays the link to the client's URL, "https://web.<<URL Deleted SNIP>>.com/zimbra/?client=advanced"
If anyone can please shed some light on how to convert these files from the mhtml format, or even just open them for reading, it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!
Mark

Re: Zimbra saved file as MHTML
Can you right click on one of the saved files, and tell windows to open it in MS Word instead of IE?

Re: Zimbra saved file as MHTML
Thanks very much for the reply. I've tried both that & saving the file, then trying to open the file with MS Word (2013) and got nothing but a graphical box.quanah wrote:Can you right click on one of the saved files, and tell windows to open it in MS Word instead of IE?
I told the user not to expect much to work well, so she's actually trying to contact the original people who sent and/or received the emails to see if there is any way to get them re-sent.
Hopefully she'll be able to recover the messages that way.
Thanks again!
Mark
