Migration from 8.8.15 on 20.04 to 10.1.x on 22.04 (or newer)?

Post by dgeist »

Greetings, all. I've been hosting a few personal domains on Ubuntu/Zimbra FOSS for well over a decade and have been frankly a little scared to get off 8.8.15 FOSS since it stopped being supported, but it seems like community-based builds have really picked up and I'm ready to look at upgrading again. I kind of had to stop ubuntu updates at 20.04 due to support. Some questions:
- What is the recommended path for something like this?
- Is it even possible to get a 10.1.x build (or to build it) on 20.04 to at least ensure the application data gets the "upgrade" steps so I can do an inplace upgrade on the OS and then package updates for zimbra?
- Is there a way to cleanly export all the account data and import into a newly built system?
- Any good migration utilities that can help with this?

Pardon the "open questions" but there's a LOT of information here and not all of it up to date or necessarily answering those questions in that context.
