Thoughts on releasing Maldua's ZCS FOSS 10.0.18.p1

Post by adrian.gibanel.btactic »

ZCS FOSS 10.0.18 embargo was recently lifted.

This release should be equivalent to 10.1.13 which if I'm not mistaken has a lot of problems with Imap connections.

So I'm thinking about porting the 10.1.14 and 10.1.15 patches to 10.0.18 in order to have 10.0.18.p1 which would be useful if you, somehow, wanted to stick with 10.0.x for a little more.

I'm not sure how easy would be to apply all of these patches in 10.0.18... or if I should just have to build 10.0.18.p1 with whatever it's in Github repos and our usual 'Advanced Classic' UI patch.

Feedback on any of these is welcome. Is it worth releasing an Imap broken release?

My preference in FOSS releases is to have the most effort invested in making sure the latest release with as many ported security fixes is broadly available and tested. i don't see value in "parity releases" for completeness (especially if they're broken), and honestly don't see the sense in continuing 10.0.x support. Maybe that's just me, but I feel like if your use case is extended support on an older release, that's the sort of case where you should be paying Synacor.

It's been long enough that I really need to plan upgrading my personal/friends&family instance to RHEL 9. Unfortunately there's no good time to schedule a mailbox server outage...

After more careful check I have seen that mina and antisamy were not updated for 10.0.18 so there's no need to apply 10.1.14 and 10.1.15 changes onto 10.0.18.

In addition to that:

- CVE-2025-68645 fix is currently missing from ZCS FOSS 10.0.18 so I should be adding it back.
- Some of the 10.1.13 changes were not backported to 10.0.18. The most concerning one is the one regarding opening PDF files. That's mostly fine when you try to use 10.0.18 to upgrade Zimbra to the most updated Zimbra version and not for daily use. I won't be backporting that because it involves updating antisamy and I'm not sure it would be straight-forward to do in 10.0.18.

Current: 8.8.15 on Ubuntu VPS (Production)
Upgrade: 10.1.10 on Ubuntu 22.04 (Sandboxed)

Migrated all emails/data without any issue

Thanks to all for your your time and effort in maintaining this project

This was a fresh install and not an upgrade, which is my personal preference. I have not scanned the forum for any views on install/upgrade preferences, are there?

Also, can anyone point me to any discussion regarding future features planned and just what has changed since 8.8.15?

Any reason why you haven't upgraded directly to 10.1.15.p1 version?
