Hi all,
what are your experiences with ZCS 10.0.x and 10.1.x in terms of ActiveSync and shared mailfolders? In the recent months we upgraded most of our older ZCS 8.8.15 servers to 10.0.x. We had to find out the hard way, that shared folders synced to smartphones kill the Zimbra server. While shared calendars and shared contacts seems to be working ok, the sharing of mailfolders leads to extreme CPU usage and timeouts while accessing the mailbox through any protocol. This situation can only be resolved by restarting the mailboxd. So we switched off ActiveSync foldersharing
on the COS level.
As we support many users depending on this feature we currenly have a number of open support tickets with zimbra. However, my impression is that zimbra does not put enough effort into solving this essential problem. We are facing a situation where we have to tell our users, that a feature which they used for many years with ZCS 8.8.15 is not working any longer after updating to a newer major release. This is a hard pill to swallow.
To clarify: this is not a smartphone issue. We see this on iPhones, Andoroid phones and with different mail apps. We believe this is a general bug in the ActiveSync implenetation of ZCS 10.0/10.1 in contrast to the former 8.8.15 Zimbra-NG Modules ActiveSync implementation which was working ok for us...
Is there anybody out there with a solution for this or at least a good workaround?
Thanx
Thomas

Re: ActiveSync and shared Folders with ZCS 10.0 and 10.1
Hi, I answer only to confirm your issues, we had also to disable ActiveSync foldersharing at COS level because our Zimbra 10.0.x NE server was suffering. We opened a support ticket but they did not give us full solutions, so we disabled foldersharing since it was not widely used. We configured two Zimbra accounts (personal + shared mailbox) on smartphones of users that accessed shared mailboxes.
We still have not updated to Zimbra 10.1.x.
I also wanted to try activating a server with Zpush Zimbra backend (viewtopic.php?t=53692&sid=3e913b70a5ce6 ... start=1070) like we had on our previous Zimbra 8.8.15 community edition (that worked without any issues) but I haven't done it yet due to lack of time.

Re: ActiveSync and shared Folders with ZCS 10.0 and 10.1
Similar problems we encountered after the update of ZCS environment to the 10.0.x. As for camps that synchronize shared mail folders using ActiveSync – for us they have become a real problem: critical signs of performance degradation such as high CPU load, server timeouts, and repeated starts of the mailboxd process. As you too had to do, the folder sharing at the COS level had to be stopped for achieving the stability.
We haven’t found the definitive solution to this problem yet, although one temporary measure has been to recommend users link to shared folders via the web client or through most client email applications as opposed to linking the folders to their phones. Not perfect in any way, but it handles the load off the server for the moment at least.

Re: ActiveSync and shared Folders with ZCS 10.0 and 10.1
Here same issue. Its highly problematic, that we can't share folders for our road warriors. It blocks us partly from running our business.
We have been around with Zimbra OSS 4-5-6-7-8 with Zextras package for years. After 8.8.15 we started paying for the licence, but the reality is it only got worse... While you would expect it to be the other way around. They manage to introduce many fancy features in 10.1. (With many new issues for people if I read the forum right?)
Why not fixing the basics first. Because thats what this topic is about. "Sharing folders for activesync."
Hope to see this solved soon, otherwise we must start looking around. (Trust me, its the really last thing I want... But at some point we'll have to...)

Why is this article still online, or not updated in some way.

Re: ActiveSync and shared Folders with ZCS 10.0 and 10.1
In 2025, it's crucial that shared mailbox synchronization happens in the simplest and fastest way possible. Unfortunately, the lack of this functionality is a significant issue for me and my clients.
Having seamless synchronization is not just a convenience—it's a critical requirement for businesses to operate efficiently. Without this feature, I will be forced to explore alternative services that can meet this need.
Are there any updates, workarounds, or planned improvements to address this? It's becoming increasingly difficult to manage shared mailboxes without an efficient solution.

I still find the problem today, has someone found an alternative solution?
