Java and Java GC Tuning

Post by L. Mark Stone »

After several weeks of iterative testing, we've published a blog post with our recommendations for tuning Java and the Java Garbage Collector on large and/or busy ZImbra mailbox servers.

The challenge we encountered is that ZImbra's Performance Tuning Guidelines for Large Deployments, even though it has a lot of solid information, is at this point quite dated and no longer applicable given the myriad of changes to the JVM used by Zimbra since Zimbra 5.0, 6.0 and even 8.8.x.

Hopefully at some point someone in Zimbra will update that wiki for 10.1, but in the interim, at least as Java and Java Garbage Collection is concerned, our blog post may fill a gap.

Hope that helps, and comments welcomed!

With best regards to all,
Mark

Fantastic article Mark. The community benefits from your experience.

I can't see anyone from Synacor providing a Wiki update with that level of depth, so we're now reliant on the community to update the embedded knowledge.
