dnscache will not start

Post by AndrewN »

Hey all,
Having some issues getting the dnscache service to start.  I installed it when I moved from 8.0.7. to 8.5 last weekend, but so far it hasn't started.  I can't find any documentation for it, so if anyone has any suggestions where I can find logs, change the config, etc. that would be awesome.

Is there another DNS server (such as named/bind9) already listening to port 53?

Should not be, but I'll double check. Zimbra 8.0.7 was installed on to a clean install of Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 64-bit, and I don't think BIND was installed... Shouldn't have been unless it was installed by default for some reason.

Can you paste somewhere the contents of /etc/hosts and /opt/zimbra/conf/unbound.conf ?

i have the same problem back then when installing zcs 8.5., the dnscache conflict with the port 53.

To solve the problem is just configure again from fresh extraction and not install the dnscache, you just say no.

And your zimbra server will running well :)

They already stated that port 53 is not in use, so your answer isn't particularly helpful.

dnscache will not start

Hey quanah, didn't see this until today... got an email about the first reply but not this one oddly enough.

I found a typo in the unbound.conf this morning when I went to copy. One of the forward-addr entries was 8.88.8 instead of 8.8.8.8. I ran zmcontrol start after fixing that, and now status shows it's running.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, and helping me find another reason why I should not do maintenance at 1 AM.

Hey AndrewN,

I have the same problem that you (dnscache will not start), and i want to fix the error in the forward-addr entry (of course i has another error). But i don't know how to fix it, because by change the entry manually in the file conf/unbound.conf doesn't work.

Can you please tell me how you fix that?

thanks in advance.

What are you trying to change exactly? The configuration file pulls data from LDAP.
