Calendar Entries- always wrong time on some computers

Post by neilmc »

Sorry if this has come up before. Didn't find anything in search except the all day event timezone bug.
This is driving me nuts. It seems to be related to some PCs rather than user login or browser version or type.
A user will put a new entry in and have it appear in their calendar 17 hours ahead of the time they selected. Tried it on this PC with Firefox 1.5.0.2 and IE 6.
If I log onto the same user's calendar on my PC (Ubuntu with FF 1.07) it works fine.
I have other users with FF on win XP where it seems to be working fine.
The time displayed in the Zimbra UI matches the system time.

Is the PC timezone set to a the correct timezone? You might try creating an event with debug on and see what timezone information is sent to the server. To do this:
Turn on debug:

- turn off any popup blockers (or allow the zimbra domain)

- in the search bar enter "$set:debug 3"

- This should popup a debug window
Create the event. Copy/paste the create event SOAP from the debug window and paste it here.

It is a timezone problem of some sort, but I'm struggling to work out what is different about our problem computers.
Timezones is set GMT+10 (sydney) on all of them. On the problem computers the timezone in debug is

even though the timezone in windows is set to GMT + 10.
If I set an appointment on a PC that doesn't exhibit this behaviour then it displays correcty when opened on any computer.
I can drag and drop incorrect entries to the right location.
Where else could zimbra be getting a timezone of GMT -8 from other than Timezone in Date/Time in windows control panel?

didn't the australian time zone definition change because of the commonwealth games? it may be related to this; if so, the timezone definitions are stored in ldap and you may need to adjust it properly. someone with more state can jump in.

Daylight savings time was extended by 2 weeks (but we are a few weeks past that now).
It points to something at the client end.... not sure what. The PCs that are sending through GMT-8 are definatelly set to GMT+10. Maybe I'll try changing their timezone to something else and then back again.

I have this exact problem. If I enter the calendar even in by using the mouse to drag over to select the appointment time then it works fine.
Was there a resolution to this. I am in the Sydney Australia Time zone also. I am using FireFox 1.5.0.3
The only way to fix it is to create an entry then drag the appointment to the correct day / time. It is not picking up the +10 GMT time zone but acting as if it is US time zone. The time difference bears this out as it is showing -17hours. If you view what looks right on the calendar then double click on it to edit then the time is incorrect, this is a show stopper. I am currently evaluating Zimbra and this is the first what I would call bug I have found.

Did you try the debug steps I posted above? What do you get for the two different date elements?

I can not work out how to get into debug mode if I don't have access to the server? I have put in a support request to the host. If there is a way to do this from my end then I will need more details?

Kevins instructions for debug will work in the client without any need for server access.
Just type in what he said in the zimbra search text box to bring up debug.
Some of our computers still have this problem. I've been busy and just told users that we'll get it sorted one day. I'm holding off converting more people away from Outlook until then.
Very mysterious, debug for me showed the wrong timezone being sent to the server by the client even though the windows timezone was set correctly.
I'm setting up a new laptop for a user at the moment and it isn't having this problem.
We are using Version 3.1.0_GA_332.DEBIAN3.1 14-Apr-2006 at the moment. Will set aside some time to upgrade to 3.1.1 soon and see if the problem persists.

Ok I can see the problem from the debug. My main computer is showing -8:00GMT and another computer is showing +10:00 GMT and works correctly.
Main computer using FireFox had wrong date. Went to IE7 B2 but it does not work with Zimbra so uninstalled and returned to IE6. Still the same time difference problem. The date and time on windows shows Sydney Australia. I have cleaned the Cache, cookies etc still has a problem.
Used a laptop someone had on my desk and calendar works fine.
Exchange server hosting + Outlook are looking tasty at the moment
Debug info below.
