Changing mail server [SOLVED]
Changing mail server [SOLVED]
Hello, sorry if this question was already asked - didnt find exact answer.
I installed zimbra with this settings:
Domain: m.example.com
mail server: m.example.com
server name: m.example.com
I succesfully migrated my gmail account and everything works fine.
But now i am confused - how can i change mail server.
I want to change mail server to just example.com. It wont be a problem with DNS records but what should i do inside zimbra? I am afraid that i will lose my account data or brake smth.
So can i change only mail server, leaving domain and server name as it is right now?

Re: Changing mail server
I would leave it as is and just set up a Virtual Host for your domain with the desired FQDN.

This machine is already a VM. plus i dont want to change my hostname. Is it possible?
Or what about creating second mx record and dont delete first one. I have second WAN IP, so its possible. Can i add second mail server to my zimbra?

Re: Changing mail server
You can add as many Zimbra servers to your environment as you wish. Please see the Multi-Server Guide before doing so.
The term Zimbra Virtual Host has nothing to do with whether the server is virtualized or not. A Zimbra Virtual Host refers to a group of settings on a domain. Please as the Zimbra user run:
and then take a look at https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Multiple_S ... _for_HTTPS
Hope that helps,
Mark

Re: Changing mail server
This is confusing actualy.L. Mark Stone wrote: and then take a look at https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Multiple_S ... _for_HTTPS
1) I added new virtual host at Domain->Virtual Hosts
2) zmprov md m.example.com zimbraVirtualHostName m.example2.com zimbraVirtualIPAddress 1.2.3.4
m.example.com - bc this is my domain.
m.example2.com - this is my new virtual host
But what about IP? Should it be real local ip like 192.168... or an actual "1.2.3.4". I dont get it how it will work.

Re: Changing mail server
For the most modern versions of Zimbra, you no longer need to provision a separate IP for each virtual host.
Just add the virtual hostname in Zimbra (making sure the A record in public DNS points to the Zimbra Proxy), and add the certificates via the cli and you should be good to go.
