Factors influencing the virtual_alias_expansion_limit

Post by gabrieles »

Hi all,
we need to have a complete list of what element are counted in the virtual_alias_expansion_limit value in postfix.
This need comes from a customer thah has a dynamic distribution list that counts ~7500 members, and with a virtual_alias_expansion_limit set to 10000, but a message sent to that list (only to that list) gets refused with
DATA failed: 451 4.6.0 Alias expansion error

- We checked the list and correctly includes only zimbraAccounts elements and only active, not zimbraDistributionlists or other.
- We checked for each account how many zimbraMailForwardingAddress and zimbraPrefMailForwardingAddress have, and we found other ~500 recipients
- We checked each one of these recipients and found 3 internal distribution lists (other 20 recipients, no other lists) and 15 more simple forwards

The limit of 10000 seems not reached, but the error is crystal clear, 451 4.6.0 Alias expansion error...
What other elements are we not seeing that are calculated in the sum of the virtual_alias_expansion_limit?
- out of office? -> seems not
- auto-forwarding? (yes, there are people that do it [facepalm...]) -> seems not, i've tried buto just on a single server
- ???
