I assume one can just skip to the last version (10.1.9.p1) when running 10.1.7?
Consider seriously: because of the history of exploits: block Zimbra web interface with VPN, firewall or HTTP proxy.

You are right.

However by doing that you might be losing the opportunity to tell me if I messed up something with 10.1.8.p1... so I don't mess it up again in the future.

Hi,
I have a Rocky 9 server with Maldua's Zimbra 10.1.7 installed. Release 10.1.7_GA_4200000.RHEL9_64_20250425163533 RHEL9_64 FOSS edition.
Since July 18th, when Zimbra version 10.1.10 was released, when I run the yum update command, the following packages have appeared:

zimbra-core-components x86_64 10.1.3-1zimbra10.0b1.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 8.1 k
zimbra-mta-components x86_64 10.1.2-1zimbra8.8b1.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 7.7 k
zimbra-nginx x86_64 1.24.0-1zimbra8.8b6.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 445 k
zimbra-os-requirements x86_64 1.0.5-1zimbra8.7b1.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 6.9 k
zimbra-perl-mail-spamassassin x86_64 4.0.1-1zimbra8.8b5.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 763 k
zimbra-proxy-components x86_64 1.0.14-1zimbra8.8b1.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 6.7 k
zimbra-rsync x86_64 3.4.1-1zimbra8.7b1.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 339 k
zimbra-spamassassin-rules x86_64 1.0.0-1zimbra8.8b8.el9 zimbra-1010-oss 270 k

Do they need to be installed? There may be problems with upgrading to version 10.1.8.p1 or 10.1.9.p1.
Thanks

According to the Zimbra people whatever comes from the repos should be independent of the main core packages (the ones that are installed thanks to ./install.sh in a FOSS installation) so, in theory, you should be fine. I mean that zimbra-core-components seems scary to install if you don't have the ZCS 10.1.10 core packages... but I haven't actually checked what the content of this package is... so... I might be too afraid after all.

As you can see from this thread and Github issues we don't have neither positive feedback nor negative feedback about these two versions. So... I guess it's better if you first try them out in a test VPS (ideally a clone of your prod VPS) instead of testing them on prod VPS.

Hi All,

I’ve been using Zimbra OSE 8.8.15 for several years and am now planning to migrate to Maldua's Zimbra FOSS 10.1.x.

Before proceeding, I’d like to clarify a couple of points:

Licensing: As per the official documentation, it appears that Zimbra FOSS 10.1.x includes the mandatory License Daemon Service (LDS) and requires license activation for all installations. Could you please confirm if a license from Zimbra is indeed required for this version?

cbpolicyd Compatibility: Although cbpolicyd hasn’t seen recent updates, is it still compatible with Zimbra FOSS 10.1.x for policy management tasks? Alternatively, are there any built-in or recommended replacement tools for similar functionality?

Appreciate your guidance in advance.

Best regards,

No, that's only needed for ZCS Network Edition.

I think so because I tested it recently in 10.0.x and it worked. I'm talking about the integrated cbpolicyd. There are two wiki pages about it.

Another thing is you being able to keep your cbpolicyd configuration by upgrading from ZCS 8.8.15. You might need to re-setup it once you are upgraded so make sure to dump/backup the cbpolicyd database contents and any custom configuration you might have.

I just upgraded from 10.1.7 to 10.1.9p1 without issue. So far so good.

It's somewhat frustrating that the Zimbra software builds do not pin the FOSS package versions, so unless you are very cautious you'll always end up pulling in newer FOSS components. This is usually ok (they are typically security fixes), but one major issue is with the package I left noted above -- zimbra-nginx.

If you update the zimbra-nginx package, it loses the extended attribute capability to bind any port as the "zimbra" user and will not restart on reboot. If you update this package, you must (as root) run

Code: Select all

/opt/zimbra/libexec/zmfixperms
after (or

Code: Select all

setcap CAP_NET_BIND_SERVICE=+ep /opt/zimbra/common/sbin/nginx
but safest just to re-run zmfixperms.)

You are encountering mysql connection error on upgrades to Maldua ZCS 10.1.5 or Maldua ZCS 10.1.6 issue.

The current workaround (which might have just been luck) is to shutdown completely the virtual machine, starting the virtual machine again and then running the update procedure thanks to ./install.sh again.

I think this is an actual issue that Synacor will only find when trying either build 10.2.x or, if we are lucky now when they create binaries for Ubuntu 24.04. As if 10.1.0 install binaries wouldn't suffer of this problem by some reason that we cannot grasp right now.

Either that or many of the FOSS sysadmins are running poor-mans setups. I wonder if someone has tried turning up the virtual machine assigned RAM to 16 GiB and try it again.
